Blog Post #29- Paper 2 Sample In this excerpt from "Agent Carter", they use various film techniques to convey emotions to the viewer. Through different mise-en-scene elements, they show a dark action theme with overarching feelings such as loss and isolation. To begin, the start is in start contrast to the rest of the scene. The viewer is thrown into a sunset above the clouds as a man and woman are communicating. They transition between their 2 environments, a plane above the clouds and a dark communication room. The warm colors of white and orange show freedom or a release from something. This compared to the dark room lit only by a board of flashing buttons with a close up of the woman in distress gives the viewer a sense if sympathy and relation despite this being the introduction. Following this is an establishing shot J-Cut if a man talking before the viewer is shown an office, seemingly some sort of station or headquarters, filled with men in suits. Here it...

Blog Post #27- Mise En Scene The setting of out film takes place in Wills dining room, but it is meant to be some sort of interrogation room or chamber. The entre film takes place in this room and the only other area we see is the kitchen when we switch to the last few seconds of the film. The lighting was important for our film because we needed a dark room with one light source. We laid a flashlight on a counter pointing toward where we filming and that was it. Next is the wardrobe. For that, we had Will wear civilian clothing while the 2 villains were wearing all black with masks on. The characters were on screen the entire time so this aspect was very important. Finally, the camerawork. We had our cameraman Angel stand around the table we were sitting at getting different angles to put in the film.

Blog Post #26- Sound For our film, we couldn’t have any background noise. So we had to get everybody out of the house for a silent area. The only sound in our film was our dialogue and the background music we added after. For my character, I wore a mask which made my voice sound muffled and kind of inaudible. To work around that we had to add captions to the entire film. To enhance the sound I could have maybe work the mask differently so that it didn’t cover my mouth. As for the rest of the film, we maybe could’ve put a separate phone down to record audio while we were recording the video and overlay it. This could have make the audio sound better than the audio that was already in the video we recorded. Overall I think the audio for our film was pretty good and anything else we couldve done would have been too much extra work.

Blog Post #25- Characters Our main character in the film opener was acted out by Will. He was a man that was captured by the other characters in the film and was forced to play a game to save his life. He is the protagonist. The other 2 characters in the film are the antagonist and the henchman. The antagonist is meant to be a leader or villain putting people in dangerous situations. His lack of empathy or response to the protagonist show that he is uncaring and solely focused on doing his job. The genre is thriller and the other characters are meant to add to that by being violent and evil. In other thriller films most villains have no empathy for any innocent characters and are solely focused on either killing them or causing them some form of harm. We fell that our characters, both protagonists and antagonists, did a good jo in doing our genre justice.

Blog Post #24- Color and Lighting of Film For our film, lighting played a big part. Since we filmed during the day, we had to block out every window and crack of light. This was so we could have a dark room to film where we could set up our own lighting. Color played a big part as well in the way the villain dressed. They were wearing all black which typically symbolizes mystery and evil in a film. The lighting and color could have impacted the viewer by creating an ambiance and giving the viewer something to expect.
