Movie Rating using Rubric

The movie I decided to watch and score was the Lego Batman Movie.

The movie I decided to watch and score was the Lego Batman Movie. An animated action movie released in 2017, created by Warner Bros. studios.

Story- In my opinion, the story takes a backseat in the movie compared to the dynamic characters and impressive animation. The movie is a comedy, so the story doesn’t take itself too seriously, which I enjoyed. The plot is that of a typical Batman; he finds a villain, in this case all of the villains he’s fought, there’s a side plot involving different characters, they go through a struggle and ultimately use the power of friendship to save the day. It’s a simple feel good movie with a rather standard plot.

Rating: 15/20

Camera work- Since it was animated, there were no instances of human influence when it came to camera shots and angles. Stop motion movies such at this take tons of time with many camera angles implemented one frame at a time. The movie still uses all kinds of camera shots and angles masterfully, so I suppose having the edge of animation makes more options available. Not to mention how it was a commercial production, so the editing was very good.

Rating: 20/20

Dialogue: I think that this is where the movie shines. With interesting characters as well as witty and funny dialogue, the movie is never boring. There’s always something happening on screen whether it be the setting or a character, there is never a dull moment. As I said earlier, the movie doesn’t take itself very seriously, so it’s a nice lighthearted movie.

Rating: 20/20

Actors- Being an animated movie, there’s was no actors with an onscreen performance as it was just Lego figures on screen. Despite this, the voice actors did a very nice job giving all characters an interesting and unique personality.

Rating: 15/20

Total- 70/80
