Movie Opening Inspiration

Since our film opening is in the horror genre, we will obviously be taking inspiration from the horror film opening formula. This typically includes a character who is meant to die or is unimportant in the story encountering the main threat in the movie. The purpose of this is to show the danger that this entity presents and what the main cast will have to deal with. Movies that use this method of exposition that I personally will try to emulate are “Split” and “A Quiet Place.” In both movies the main villain is shown to overpower a main character and leads into the main plot of the film as the protagonists try to deal with them. I liked these scenes because as a fan of suspenseful and more dark themes, I felt that these scenes were executed very well. These scenes include some sort of climax, not more significant than that of the rest of the movie, but enough to grab the viewers attention and keep them interested for the rest of the run time. This is  accompanied by other parts of the film, such as the camera work and soundtrack(stinger). For me, the hooks, or openings for these movies drew me in and they are now some of my favorite movies. In the case of other horror movies, the introduction is ineffective and doesn’t keep the viewer entertained enough for them to want to watch the rest of the movie. Not exclusive to the horror genre, most good movies have an opener that reflects the quality of the movie. As for the presentation of credits such as actors and producers, horror movies use dark backgrounds and unintrusive text to show these. This is most likely the route we will take with our project. The franchise our trailer will be drawing inspiration from is the Saw franchise. These movies are famous for their brutality and exaggeration. The opening scenes in these movies are usually very graphic and will draw in an audience of people who find that to be interesting. Of course our video will be very very much toned down as we probably cant submit something on the level of those movies.
